    Newborn FAQs

A sleepsuit/bodysuit and a sleeping bag are recommended for newborns to wear at night, and they should be well fitting so there’s no risk of your baby’s head slipping inside the material and putting them at risk. Our Merino Kids Cocooi Sleep Gowns are also a great option for newborns and are designed with your little one’s safety and comfort in mind. Our sleep gowns can be work alone, with our Cocooi
    Kimono Bodysuits
or underneath our Coocoi Babywrap depending on the time of year and temperature of the room.

Our Merino Kids Cocooi Babywraps are super cosy and made from superfine merino wool, perfect for swaddling newborns. They are easy to use and naturally temperature regulating which is important for newborns as they haven’t yet developed the ability to regulate their own temperature. Our babywraps have also been acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as a
    hip-healthy product.

Merino wool is the perfect material for newborn sleepwear as it is superfine to create a micro-climate around your baby, which regulates their temperature and keeps them cosy all night long. Newborns are unable to regulate their own temperature before they are six months old, which means dressing them in a material like merino wool is super important to keep them cool in the summer and snuggly in the winter.

Merino wool is also hypoallergenic and antibacterial, which means it is kind and gentle for little ones with sensitive skin or eczema.

Depending on the time of year, you can decide how you want to dress your little one based on the temperature of the room.

Newborns could sleep in a bodysuit, sleeping bag, babywrap or sleep gown, and when it’s cooler during those winter months, they may need to wear their bodysuit underneath their sleeping bag for example.

Check out our temperature guide for more information about dressing your little
one for sleep all year round.
